New lens...M42 and M43
This is my first tries last night of the Orion Nebula. The new lens allows for a wider field of view and changes the scope from an f10 to an f1.95.....which allows for shorter exposures and makes up for poor tracking in the scope..(that's what I'm hoping for anyway).
I took many exposures at 20, 30 and 45 seconds. All, including this one seem like they may be overexposed a bit. I'm going to try some 5, 10, and 15 sec exposures tonight to see if I can get a bit more detail in the core of the nebula and still get the details in the clouds.......it's a learning experience. Lately I've been frustrated with no clear skies.....but tonight is supposed to really be good around 1:00am...so we'll see.
By the way.......this is 15 of 20 shots stacked in Registax and then adjusted in Photoshop.
thanks for looking and commenting

I also showed this over at DPR and one of the guys added to it....in a very nice way I think.......that's why they call it the retouching forum.

thanks Paul.....it was Brian Randall on the retouching forum.....I thought it was pretty clever. My wife when she first saw the picture when I was working on it said that she saw a person/figure in the clouds.

tHANKS RVB.......The camera is a little astrophotography camera called the MX5C....it is made by Starlight Express. It's only downside is that it is such a small format.....it sure does well in low light however.

OK thanks, Bud. I thought it was maybe a nikon coolpix, which, if I'm not mistaken, quite easy to adapt to this lens.

I've been using the nikon 5700 with my telescope.....but the new lens is called the fastar....it actually goes in the front of the scope and therefore is actually in the way of the front and the light gathering of the telescope itself. The MX5C is a very small profile camera and doesn't block the light that much...whereas the 5700 is quite a bit larger.
I hate to admit this outloud......but.....I'm thinking about buying one of the swivel cameras......taking it apart....and putting the lens mechanism in front of the camera......maybe a used 990 or 950?.......it would give a very low profile but provide a 3 mexapixel format. Please, someone talk me out of this idea.
