Dangerous indeed!!. I have a Nikon (even though not the D100) and a Canon (10D). Both are superb cameras.
I asked myself the same may times. Finally I decided for Canon 10D because in my opinion it gives me more value for my money. Other may and will disagree with me on this of course.
The main point I considered: With Canon I can get decent quality lenses with top features USM, IS, fast) at consumer prices. A significant number of canon non L lenses are superb. Take my first two lenses as an example: 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM and 50mm f/1.8 USM II. If you have all the money in the world (or are a working pro getting money out of your gear) you will have superb L lenses available (at top dollar).
With Nikon, many of the features and decent quality are available only on their pro line of lenses.
I found this site herlpful. Perhaps you may want to take a look.

ah...thanks
you see, i've been around and looking at reviews and the two cameras seem identicle...or at least very very close.
of course the glass will be the determinant of which camera i'd like to get...but that's also where i get stuck you see...
i know that i wouldn't be able to afford the L series lense for a 10d...as i'm still a student (i'm going for 10d or d100 instead of 300d because i have a friend who works at a camera store...and can get an employees discount on everything...so in the end i'd be paying the close to the same as a regular 300d with all the goodies). according to imaging-resource the d100 is faster than 10d....but of course i don't think .05 of a second is going to make all that difference...but shutter lag has been the pet peaves of pet peaves for me....
i read on the net that says that metering with nikon lenses are better than the canon lense...but they say canon lense are better to take sports pictures....so i'm kind of torn. i have played with both cameras a bit, but not as long as i would like. i do have a friend with a d100, but he's at college studying photography . I just talked to him lately online, and he says he was in the same delima, but he just fliped a coin...i do like the button layout of the d100 a bit better than the 10d, but it's nothing i can't get used to. something i really wonder about is the 10d's lack of a proper AF assist lamp bothers anybody.
thanks in advance
