IMHO to put a pic here it has to go through a process of scanning in some way, therefore it's digital Of course it could then be manipulated in Photoshop or not.

So, is a 'traditional image' scanned and manipulated more or less digital than a straight unmanipulated pic captured with a digital camera?

Answers on an (e-) postcard to......

In regards to the original question...

I don't have any experience with film. I didn't even become interested in photography until the digital era. I would like to try my hand at it, now that I have a basic understanding of photography. But, I'm solely digital. Not by preference of one over the other, just by chance I guess. I just happened to stumble upon it first.

Obviously for Professional photographers, high quality film production outways any digital comparisons.... However, for someone like me, who is a relative newbie, digital offers extremely easy and cost effective practice before the "next step" has to be made.

yeah...but the startup cost for anything "professional" for digital is a bit expensive. ;-)

on the other hand, developing film costs money also *shrugs*

Still Off Topic

Sorry about this useless post. I accidentally double posted, and was unable to delete this one, so I just put this explanation instead.

Note to Paul/Stephen:
Why am I unable to delete my own posts? Actually, don't reply to that, just wanted to note that it wouldn't let me delete my post. Said I had no permission. D'OH!

It's Les Claypool's. Bassist extraordinaire. It's from the song, aptly titled, "To Defy The Laws Of Tradition" by Primus. An ecclectic band to say the least, but one of my very favorites.

Scanners worth buying

Can anyone recommend a scanner for 35mm film that is high quality, and works with Mac OSX? I have read that the CanoScan 8600f is good.

I use film and Digital.... 99% digital.

I think this statement is now outdated by about 2 years.

Unhappy

I don't, but I wish I did.

My best camera is still my film SLR. It is a Nikon FA with AI-s 50 mm and 28 mm and E-series 70-210 mm zoom lenses. I also have a motor drive and Speedlight flash, but the flash was ruined by leaky batteries (yes, my fault, completely).

I used to always shoot Kodachrome 64 or 25, making gorgeous, but expensive, photos.

Tim
