Has anyone else noticed the XTI with a kit lens 18-55 standard lens, in Program mode defaults at f11 witch gives a slow 1/250th or slower shutter speed? Even in perfect sun light from behind.
The funny thing is in the A-DEP mode the camera defaults to f4 with a much faster shutter speed of 1/1250th
Both of the specs are correct with perfect lighting. I also noticed that even in program mode, if I turn the JOG shift dial to f4 after the first shot the camera will default back to f11.
This is very sad on Canons part.
I shoot trains and have had many DSLR's by other companies and have never had a camera default at f11 in auto mode. All that does is slow the shutter speed down so things that are moving get motion blurred. it also makes it hard to hand hold a camera indoors as the speed would drop to 1/40th.
Most Nikon's, Pentax, Minolta's and Sony's default at around f5 with a shutter speed of 1/500th.

I know most will get into some discussion trying to explain to me about AV and TV and manual mode. I don't need this info as I know all that jazz, I am wondering if the default f11 is standard to the XTI and all Canon DSLR's or if mine could have a problem metering?

Or is this a sneaky way to sell IS lenses on Canons part?

I enjoyed the train shots before you took them down. If you're looking for discussion on them, I suggest entering the weekly contest, where most users post.

It appears that none of the Canon shooters here have encountered the problem you have, likely because most of the users here shoot in Av, Tv, or manual mode. It might be better to contact Canon about this directly.
