Congratz Sambo. I knew this one was going to be the winner this week. And well deserved it is. It's an amazing image. Someone mentioned that it reminded them of something Japanese. It does. It's that section on the right especially. It looks like a Japanese watercolour somehow and that weird looking tree re-inforces that. The whole outcrop on the right with the trees has something bonzai about it. The play of light in the clouds and the valley is stunning too.
I'd like to know where this is actually. Such a beautiful place. Has something heavenly about it.

Sam, this really is a stunning shot - and for a fleeting break in the clouds you capitalized on it incredibly well. Congrats on a well deserved win.

POTW is always such an honor at this site, and I'm thrilled that the community decided that this shot was worthy!
Buried up to my eyeballsin work (and vacation), I haven't been able to participate much in the communitythis summer. Thanks to all of those that have been commenting on my posts. Your kindness and critiques never go unnoticed!
Fred, this is located on the border of Virginia and Kentucky. I'm glad that you like the shot. I immediatly love the tree, and walked along the mountain ridge untill I could get an unobstructed shot. My tripod was only about 4 inches from the edge of a 500 feet drop. Thanks!
Ellen, Andrew, grazhoper, and Kevin, thanks so much! I appreciate it!
Thanks Milan!
Thank you Sheila, and thanks for your help over the years.
Thanks Suzan!
Buddy, you never were one to hide your feelings (-: But that is what I like about you, and have come to expect it. Thanks for the congrats.
Thanks Steve, I appreciate it!
Sam

Sambo,
All the others expressed so well my feelings about this great photo.
I admire, too, your willingness to pursue the shot regardless of where you had to go for it.
You have a good eye, and you did wait for "The Breaks", as it were!
My congratulations, too.
Don
