rebel in a word..awsome...best money ever spent..focus on everything and fast..just get a good lens..this is the camera that should have been available along time ago...if you can handle iso of 1600..aperture flexibility and awsome shots..then the rebel is king...long live the rebel..good bye nikon 5700...

Hi Dugster, congratulations on your new Rebel. I just got my D100 about a week ago. The DSLRs are great. I can't get over the low noise and high ISO capabilities. You are going to love your new camera.

I know what you mean, the glass is a bigger investment than the camera. I really appreciate your kind words. The nice thing about photography is that it is a medium where you can express yourself. I just couln't wait to get my hands on the D100. I spent 2 years with the Coolpix 5000. It is a great camera, but I was always up against some limit. The DSLR kind of sets you free. Have fun, and let's see a lot of pictures with your new camera.

as good as the 5700?..lolthe auto on this camera is awsome...load a flashcard in camera..turn on..point and shoot...By the way it focuses and locks onto anything and everything inside or out..so the full auto makes it simple enough for anyone to pick up and use well without any knowledge

awesome is understatement!

Not only is it totally competent in it's Fully Auto mode But It also Has a AV mode that automatically sets ISO speed while you set aperture, but a TV mode that sets aperture while you manual
adjust ISO Speed! Preety smooth, eh?

To me it looks a good camera, but what concerns me is the plastic body. Do you think it could withstand certain knocks ?

definately could stand a few hard knocks....in the canon rebel forums in dpreview more then 1 person has dropped this camera and had it bounce with no problems....also have yet to hear of anyone having any problems with plastic body thus far....the weight of this camera and a good lense really makes you feel you are taking pictures....this camera the rebel compared to the nikon 5700 that I have seems much more sturdy in all ways....must say its nice to use a camera that focuses fast and the shutter lag is non existant...hope this helps on any questions...

Sounds great guys.

I'm a relative beginner in Photography (not just Digital), had no real interest until the kids came along 3 years ago and purchased a G2 as soon as they came out (G2 not the kids).

Completly hooked now and will be trying to upgrade to Rebel in new year (yeah, I know what your thinking - tryin to run before he can walk but I feel i'm quite accomplished with the G2 now and new toys beckon ).

I appreciate the extra cost for lens(es) but wonder re. flash. I have Canon 420EX flash unit, will this;
A) be compatible with Rebel?
B) worthy of the Rebel?
C) whats a ball park figure for compatible/worthy flash?

All advice appreciated.

Thumbs up Is the Rebel worth it?

I think so, and I'm new at this. Buying or upgrading for me was such a excruciating experience, I can emphasize. We are so obsessed, at least I was, at getting the most for the investment.
But everything I read, and I must have read a ton of reviews, said this camera was worth it! Like I said I realitively new at this but I'm satisfied! Good luck!
