Ring In the New Ring Out The Old
I can appreciate that the judges need time to pick the final six but does that mean they have to be left up? The jumble of old and new images is very confusing and perhaps to the detriment of the incoming images.
Then there's the issue of leaving the old final six up with no votes beside them - Admin. knows when the contest closes who has won.
I don't know of another site where there's such a delay in judging. I've said many times before I wish the contest was in categories and perhaps it's time - it would simplify judging I'd imagine.
Anyway, I wish Admin. would speak to this, I know it bothers people and I think an explanation of the process would be appreciated.
Sheila.

I agree with much of Sheila's concerns. I suspect that this site is a stretch (i.e. extra) job for the admins and that revenue from the site is limited....but......the way to create a better revenue site is partiallly related to getting more traffic/hits as well as new and distinct visitors. This is aided by the site having a set rhythm. I don't care what the frequency of taking down the old is or when winners will be posted as long as it is constent. Something like:
Monday - new entries
Tuesday - old entries taken down
Wed - announce prior week winner
Wed - post new "final 6"
Sunday/monday - close voting
I worry that new contributors may leave if comments don't come to their shots, but comments are less likely if they are lost in the volume of shots including old shots from prior weeks remain up.

I agree Buddy, I don't care either when it is but that there be a set rhythm.
And if this is the new set rythm then it would be courteous to let the members know.

Roadworks and renovations
Hi,
As you may all know Paul sometimes has difficulties getting online recently due to extensive home renovations.
Also, in my case, it happens that they are replacing two road bridges on the street where I live and on occassions I don't have a telephone line, so no internet connection. It's not only a pain for the members here, but for me too.
The phone company can't even give out some concrete information about the telephone line being down and it's frustrating a few people on my street who work from home.
So because of these couple of inconveniences sometimes the POTW has been a bit late.
My apologies for this and I'll try do the best.
It's three in the morning here, I'm off to bed !!

Stephen, thanks for filling us in - it's very helpful and I think it might be good if you could put a note up somewhere.
I'm English (although I live in the US) and I can empathise with your phone problems... you and Paul are both having a tough time.
I hope your headaches get fewer very soon.
Thanks again.
Sheila
