Too Busy....
“BytePhoto Message The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later“
This annoying message appears on my screen all too frequently, when I‘m trying to connect to the site. Usually in the mornings uk time - what I don’t understand is why it happens when there are only a few people online - why?? Maintenance works being carried out or what?? Can anyone shed light on this.

I cant shed light but it seems to happen at random times throughout the day and night and seems to happen even after being logged in

Worse than that, it happens AFTER I've written a nice long comment and hit "send." Then it gets lost. It's VERY frustrating. (Although I suppose I COULD learn to save before hitting send. I never do, though.)

I sympathise Monica, that happens to be all the time.
I thought I had it pinned down, that it was somehow to do with then Admin. was taking down the old week and putting up the final six and the winner. But it seems too random for that.
It's maddening. Something to do with the increased amount of fancy advertising do we think?
I'm also finding the site painfully slow too sometimes....I click on an image and thirty seconds can go by and nothing. At that point I leave.
Which leads me to another subject and I'll post to that in a separate thread!

Sheila and Monica, its maddening, although i've just discovered that if you hit the back button (when the mesage appears) you can retrieve your comment - at that point i highlight and copy then paste it back when server is not too busy.

I was gonna suggest what pippa has just revealed as regards using the back button to save the comment. I've also found that when I do a page refresh and get the server busy notice that sometimes I can access the gallery in a roundabout fashion by going to monthly challenge -->my gallery-->one of my submissions for the week-->photo contest. This doesn't always work but will on those occasions when I think my browser has cached the server busy notice and that's all I can get unless I do the roundabout. I noticed as well that if someone is swapping out an image, say doing an edit and a repost, that will assuredly clog up the works for a few minutes.

server too busy...
Hi,
I've done one or two things on the website to see if I can stop this frustrating message, so could you please keep me posted, by using this thread. If and when you receive these "too busy" messages, please note the time and the timezone you're from and any other information about what you were doing on the site (uploading, commenting etc.) at the time the message occurred.Thanks.

hello - both yesterday and this morning i could not connect to the site. i tried various methods, my usual is to click my toolbar favourites icon, and i also googled byte.com - both ways were problematic. when i eventually did make a connection, is was poor; the pages loaded terribly slowly or error messages appeared. both days, it was around 9:30am to 10 am british summer time which is an hour ahead of gmt.
i have emailed admin with details of the messages.

its still happening and wonder if its just this side of the pond having the difficulty today??? also notice gmt time byte gives me is an hour ahead of summer time - i'm positive this is wrong "spring forward, fall back" clocks go forward 1hr in spring and back to gmt sometime in autumn, its not yet reverted - so right now gmt should be 13.14 and not 15.14 as byte claims. have got to this forum but not sure i can go anywhere else on byte right now.

New to site....SLOW!
Hi, have been using the site but the web page loading times are quite frustrating. So far pictures have downloaded to the site faster than the site pages load. Also posting pictures to contests looks quite confusing...maybe I am missing something. I am doing my best to stick it out.

hang in there Michael - sometimes are quicker than others.
Cant find the link detailing how uploading to contest is done so here’s a quick instruction:
1. Where you see ‘upload photos : : logout’ on right side of page near top (click ‘upload’)
2. Under your username there is ‘choose a category’ in the dropdown list, choose ‘photo contests’
3. Underneath that choose ‘browse’ which takes you to files on your computer. Remember that your shot should NOT be more than 800 at the longest edge, so you may have to resize it first.
4 complete the rest of the boxes
5. Click ‘upload/sumit’ and hey presto - may be a bit of a wait but that should do it.

ps: forgot to mention in case you're not aware - only two shots to the contest each week.

Darren, I am a swaddling babe on this site but I admin a few forums and have had what sounds similar to your issue. If you are using mysql first check your allocations on the DB and then check for com errors between the physical server for the mysql and the physical server for the forum... 3 out of 4 times we found an issue there (all three times it was a sticky error that was dragging the error logs... the 4th remains a mystery that seems to happen when we offend the intardnet gods
