Smile S5 or S3

Hello
I want to buy a DC. And the Canon S series seem attractive to me. ( The rebel series are too expensive to me ^_^). I am not sure which one is better, S3 or S5, and have no idea whether S5 is worth extra $150. Can you give me any advice?
Thank you !

It depends on what your looking for. I like that the S5 has 8 mega pixel compared to the S3's 6. May not seem like much but when you start shooting pictures and you need to crop into the picture because you couldn't get close enough to the subject you will need the higher resolution. Larger the the resalution of the photo the more you can crop into the image and still have enough resolution to have a nice sharp image.

all the other stuff is not that much more impressive except the larger lcd screen and the higer ISO of the S5. I think the highest you can go on the S3 is 800 ISO and the S5 you can get up to 1600 ISO.

Both camera are very good, easy handing, and you can make beauteful pictures with any of them. S5 has some extra new features, you can see them at:Canon PowerShot S5 IS
But if I were you I would buy S3. These new special features at S5 doesn't worth $150.

The new S5 has the hot shoe for an external flash, higher ISO capability, higher pixel count and larger LCD. In my case, I'm not much into shooting indoors, so the hot shoe isn't much of an advantage for me. I can still adapt a slave flash if I wanted, though. The higher iso isn't that great. These cameras won't even perform that great at lower iso. I normally try to shoot at ISO 80-200 tops. Higher iso introduces unwanted noise in the images. The biggest advantage would be the higher pixel count, IMHO. Nevertheless, I went and bought the S3. The new features in the S5 didn't catch my interest to spend the extra $150-200. I've had the S3 for over a month and feel happy with it. Cheers !

I'm in full agreement with grazhopr and gubak1; more megapixels are nice but not that important.

One thing to keep in mind that both the S3 & S5 have the electronic viewfinder; some people have a hard time getting used to that. I have the S2 IS and had the S1 before, and it took some getting used to, especially in bright sun. On the other hand, if you use the LCD rather than the viewfinder, this is not an issue.

There's a guy on Ebay that has an eyepiece for this series of cameras that works just great. Go to ebay and search "S5 IS eyepiece" and they come right up.
