Nikon D80...?

I'm pretty new with photography and stuff, I've had regular digital cameras. But I wanted to try a dslr because I'm getting more into photography. I've read a lot of reviews and stuff and I think I want to go with the Nikon D80. What do you think?

Hello, Welcome to byte! There is a weath of knowledge here.

I had the D80.... Great great great camera!!!!! I loved it.

But,.....I traded up the the D200 because it is much more user friendly to change ISO, W/B, exposure comp ect... I also upgraded because I invested in some Nikon pro lenses...the 17-55 f/2.8 and the really huge 70-200 Vr f/2.8....I didn't trust these lenses with the plastic body on the D80.

If your not going to be investing thousands in lenses....stick with the D80....if you are....or might later...Buy the D200

That is my .02 cents worth.
Cheers,
Joe

I have a D80, and use a Nikon 80-200 f/2.8, and a Nikon 300 f/4 with a 1.4 TC, and have never had a problem.

I have a D80 and it's the first SLR I've owned, digital or otherwise. Even though it's not made of metal, I think it's plenty sturdy. Just make sure you get a plastic screen protector for the LCD screen in back. You will have to learn a lot of basic photography theory and terminology if you are going to a DSLR from a regular point-and-shoot, but it's not that hard. I'm very, very glad I bought my D80 but be careful. Photography is a very expensive hobby. Kit lenses pretty much suck and good lenses can cost anywhere from a couple hundred bucks to several thousand. Then you also have to think about accessories like filters, battery grip, flash unit(s), lights, umbrellas, backdrops, etc... I put every penny I have into gear, which isn't saying much.
