canon 28-135mm IS Lens Sharpness?

I have heard that this lens can have a problem with sharpness right out of the box. I'm somewhat new to SLRs and don't have a lot to comapre this lens to, But I suspect that my copy might be one of the blurry ones. Is there a good way to test the lens for this problem?

thanks

canon 28-135mm

I chose this lens when I bought my 20D and it's on my camera most of the time. It's sharp it has good range for all around photography and takes amazing macro. The IS is the best feature on this lens..

I agree with the former speaker!
I have made about 1600 pictures with the 135 . Firrst on my Eos 300 D and now on my Eos 30 D. Especially for portraits, nature and even for macro shots!
