Just a thought about the photo contest
I was wondering if it would be interesting to have the contest run on a theme. That is the moderators could choose a subject in advance and then we the photographers would submit our photos that fit that criteria. Makes it more interesting. That way you don’t have landscapes up against portraits etc

Julie,
I don't know if you have noticed, but I have always challenged myself to post "fresh" images. i.e. one's shot within a few weeks of when posted, so I generally like your idea. While I am open minded, the monthly challenge is similar to your concept and yet gets few feedback comments, so I worry that we could lose participation.

What if of the two photographs allowed each week one was a pre-set subject and the other open?
Frank (famjad) and I often have a challenge subject between the two of us and it's great fun...buddy has joined in too and one or two others.
However, I think Buddy is right, we do have that in the monthly challenge.
I've personally always been in favor of having categories in the contest and then one final, overall excellence, winner. But it's never been well received by admin.
Sheila.

Sheila,
I don't know about admin, but I worry of sheer numbers. I often judge my "success" by number of views in a week. My old number was 200+. These days only one or two photos achieve that mark in a week. If we had categories further splitting the viewing, I think the number of views will get quite low since some subjects are not as interesting to certain viewers (for example, I don't do portrait work so seldom look at those shots as closely).
