looking to buy a 80-200 ed af-d f2.8
would like to buy the VR but a little out of my price range!!!!
any comments on this lens would be working with the D70

I have one of these and it is an absolutely fantastic lens. I used it on my D70 for about 6 months until I traded in for the D200. It has performed well on both. probably its only down side is it's a bit slow on the autofocus, but I don't shoot sports or similar action stuff so that's not a problem for me.

Great optics, verysharp in low light. Ken Rockwell's website has a good review of its technical aspects, but Ken loves almost all things Nikon, so it's not totally unbiased.

I own, and use this lens for sports. I've never had a problem with the AF being slow at all. I am using it on a D80, if that would make any difference.

I cant think of anything I dont love about this lens.
