Question Want to help me out ? KInd of new to alot of this

OK I have quite a few questions, if anybody can help me out in any way possible. Please post it and/or even e-mail me.
I'm pretty much just getting started in freelance photography.
Here's the equipment that I'm currently shooting with:
Canon EOS Rebel TI 300V. And I have a couple extra lenses. I have the Pro Master Spectrum 7 AF70-300mm and I also have a Pro Master Spectrum 7 AF80-80mm .
Those are the main thing I'm shooting with right now.

The main things I shoot and/or will be shooting are mainly concerts and live events. I may every once in awhile, do some spot news shooting like accidents and fires that sort of thing. And maybe even some sports not sure yet. Depends on what comes my way . But the main things I'm shooting currently are concerts. Most of the time when I have to do the concert shots. We only get to shoot one to three songs from very close with no flesh. So I usually try to use 1600 speed film.

OK, now that I've went over my photography interests. Here's just some of the many questions I have.

Besides being an inconvenience how does my equipment compare to the better and/or best digital SLRs out there.
I mean, I know having a digital SLR would be a lot better convenience because usually people want my photos Very fast. Even the same night sometimes .
But what about quality are the 35mm cameras Better still for overall quality ? Or Is it just the convenience of the digital format The main reasons to choose digital over 35mm ?

Here's another question for you, for what I'm shooting, what would you guys suggest I buy ?
Gimme some suggestions ideas. Help me out in any way possible . I really appreciate it .

Thanks a lot

Freelance like you described is a tough way to make much money. You need to have good equiptment that you trust will work and you need back-ups for EVERYTHING. Your equiptment is not bad but not wonderful. The camera is probably not as sturdy as some pro cameras but the main thing is to make sure you have good optics. The optics you have will work for newspaper and such but I'm not sure that the sharpness is quite the level of canon optics (though, they will work for now). As far as digital cameras, there are two huge advantages. One,you can immediately see waht you shot (especially if you have a laptop). Two, there is virtually no cost to shoot pics. This is a big plus if you are just starting out and shooting everything on spec. As far as the comparison between film and digital for image quality, digital has come a long way and printing techniques are so good that there is very little difference. Hope this helps.

I own a Canon G3 and used it to photograph my friends band. I pushed the ISO up to 400 and used Tv mode, trying different shutter speeds untill I achieved the fastest with the most light. shots came out pretty noisey... next time I will try it with 100 ISO.

Here are a couple of touched up results...
