PMA Show : Durst Photo Book Creation Systems

Durst Comes to PMA '07 With Two New Photo Book Creation Systems To Help Retailers Tap Lucrative Market

Completely Redesigned Jota, New Modular RA-4 System Enhance Workflow-at-Retail.

LAS VEGAS, March 8, 2007 - Durst Image Technology U.S., llc today introduced two new photo album production systems that fit the needs of virtually any photo lab or photo retailer that wants to join in the lucrative consumer photo keepsakes market. These systems - one for true photo output and one for "photo-quality" thermal output - are on display at the Photo Marketing Association trade show here.

Durst is demonstrating a modular, RA-4 process photo book system that is configurable to meet a variety of specific retailer specific needs and designed for medium- to high-volume production capacities. Durst also is introducing a completely redesigned Jota Album Printer - the fully automated inkjet printing system that creates "photo quality" photo books and other attractive, stylish image-based retail products in an efficient, affordable, simple workflow.

"With our two new photo book creation systems, Durst is responding to the needs of photo labs and photo retailers who want to participate in today's high-growth, high-margin consumer photo keepsakes market, but who also want simple workflow-at-retail," said A. Ron Waters, President and CEO of Durst U.S. "Our new modular system for true photo output and the redesigned Jota satisfy both of those key requirements."

Modular Photo Book System
Durst's new modular, highly automated photo book production system is designed for retailers and labs with medium- to high-volume production needs. This versatile new system, which will be commercially available in the second quarter of the year, features a three-station modular design to accommodate specific capacity demands, and an automated workflow that permits one-person operation. The system - comprised of creasing/folding, mounting/gluing and feeder units - produces as many as 18 40-page books or 36 20-page books per hour, Durst said. It is on display in Durst Booth A221.

Jota Album Printer
Also at PMA: a completely new Jota Album Printer that features easy operation, high efficiency and a small footprint. The Durst Jota is an automated inkjet printing system that makes "photo quality" picture books and other attractive, stylish image-based retail products, Durst said. The Jota will be sold in the U.S. exclusively through distributors. It is on display at PMA in Booth K231, the booth of the distributor PTS Consulting & Service Group.

In an automated workflow, the Jota creates photo books with up to 30 picture pages that are clamped, cold-glued and mounted in a single-pass process, Durst said. Beginning with the image files, the system produces greeting cards, post cards, calendars, posters, leaflets, invitations, catalogs and standard prints, as well as a variety of picture albums and "memory book" keepsakes. In one hour - an acceptable amount of time for customers to shop or run errands before returning to pick up their order - the Jota system can produce eight 4x6-inch, two 8x12-inch or one 12x16-inch 30-page picture book, Durst said.

The Jota is comprised of two high-quality, eight-color, 720-dpi inkjet printers for two-sided printing, 50-sheet paper cassette, centralized ink supply system, built-in XY cutter, front-end workstation with versatile image and system management software, and innovative stand-alone book/cover binder that lets opposite pages lie perfectly flat for two-page layouts. Consumers can submit image files and their design from home using the retailer's online service system via the Internet, Durst said.

Pricing and other product information is available by calling Durst at 1-888-480-3588 or e-mailing Durst at info@durstus.com.
