Congrats to all of you. Very well deserved - and a tough choice I'm sure in a community of great photographers.
I know Carolyn (shootem) is up a mountain in metres of snow at the moment. She's going to be surprised & thrilled when she gets back and logs on.
Well done Buddy & Sambo!
Suzan

THANKS!!!!
WOW....what a surprise!!! as Suzan mentioned, I've been up in the Selkirk Mountains of BC for the past 10 days — flown in to a remote Lodge. We actually did have internet via satellite this year, however I did not log on.... and what a surprise this morning when I did!!
Congrats to Sambo and Buddy, and Thank You to all here at Byte that give so much. I'm honoured to be a member here, have learned so much, and always look forward to everyones art/comments/ideas.
Carolyn

Sambo, your pictures are amazing, especially your portrait shots - the people you photographed look like they are interesting individuals.
Also the pictures you have taken of seemingly ordinary subjects ie; a lam on a wall or a door handle, or graffitti's wall have a quality to them that makes me want to gaze at them.
I want to take photos like that.

pippafox,
Thanks for the kind remarks. I am always humbled when someone likes my photos enough to praise them, and I was honored to receive this award. My suggestion to you if "you want to take photos like" mine (or any other great photogs here) is this:
Stay active in this site. I post two photos every week to the POTW contest, and l learn and improve my skills due to the comments of the other members. They do not always tell you what you want to hear (if we didn't think our photo's were good, why enter them in a contest??), but we all try to be fair and encouraging. It took about two months or so to make folks here realize I was really serious about my work, so don't get discouraged if you don't get many comments at first. Keep posting, listening, reading others comments, and learning.
Look at ALL the photos posted and READ ALL the comments associated with the posts in the POTW contset. I do this religously every week. You can learn a lot and get ideas from the great photographers and photos on this site, and the feedback associated with each post. If you show a willingness to learn, most will "take you under their wing" and mentor you and help you improve.
This is important: feel free to comment on other's photos, and always, ALWAYS respond to those that comment on yours. It shows that you appreciate others taking the time and effort to comment and analize your photo. I have posted over 100 photos in the POTW contest, and can honestly say that I have learned and improved a little with every post.
Good luck with your photography, I'm looking forward to seeing your photos!
Sam
