Feedback needed - monthly photo challenge
I’m considering removing the anonymity of the monthly photo challenge .. by allowing direct upload to the monthly challenge by members as opposed to the current email submission method
any thoughts

Paul, it's the one thing I really like about the Monthly Challenge. There's no 'group' help in there - just post a photo, other people comment etc, without going out of their way to find their buddies photos.
Now I figure it must be fairly time consuming for you to handle the e-mail submissions. Is there any way by posting to that page that the member name can be hidden instead of removed entirely? Or could we have a single sign-on to post to that challenge so that we all sign-on with that ID and post?

Even before reading Suzannes reply my first thought was to create an account that the users can login as just to post their picture. They will just have to be sure to log out before they start commenting lol.

I too feel that the current anonymity of the Monthly challenge is an important alternative to the "open" system where even with the best of wills, previous winners and those with an established high profile get the attention as the comments and viewing counts in the Weekly contest clearly shows. This is not to take anything away from their obvious high standard but to eliminate the "buddy" effect Suzanne mentioned.
Without detracting anything from the worthy winner in the December challenge, the entry was also in the Holiday Contest so that anonymity was lost in this instance. It would be a simple matter of stipulating that entries to the monthly challenge be unique.

I have to agree with the others i like the fact that others have to comment and so forth not knowing names this give the photos a fair chance to be commented on and judged without bias Perhaps the possibility of a button for uploading inside the monthly challenge saving logging in and out

The consensuses seems clear to remain with anonymous entries … so we will continue with that format …
my concern is getting activity in terms of meaningful feedback on both the good photos ... as well as the poorly executed in the challenge ....

Challenge Results
Hi, Paul,
For me the main thing that needs to be addressed to give the Challenge legs is consistency for the posting of winners. Unless I can't find it there appears to be no result for the April Challenge that ended May 5 and here we are on May14th. It's frustrating and discouraging.
I think anonymity is important. There's already a perception that the weekly contest is scewed to popularity in terms of views and comments posted.
Sheila.

Im fairly new to the community. I have been around a while but just lurked around and didn't really say much, but I just started trying to help out and post here and there and decided to participate in the challanges and get involved. I know these questions have probably been asked many times but I am not sure what the challenges are or when they start. for instance the last post said "July challenge open" and its "water reflections" Then I see the sticky of "water reflections" winner. I got confused then I looked at the dates.
wouldn't it be easy if you just made the Title "July 2007 Challenge open" that way the titles are not so confusing and have somthing like the rules at the top of each and every challange that way its not so confusing to the new guy that would like to participate.

Yes. I have a similar concern about revealing the identity of the photographer. I am for keeping the identity invisible to be fair to all photographers, senior, junior or novice. I am a new kid on the block. Not many people know me. I do not have a high profile to command comments or votes. Photographs should be judged on their merit alone.
