Curious
I am really new to this site and am curious that usually only senior members comment on other senior members pics, I did read that it is best to enter the contests but have not seen any contests that are going at this time. Am I missing something?

When you upload a shot, there is a pull down menu on where you want to place the shot. Each week, you can pick "photo contest" for 2 of them. Each monday, those picks will be moved into "your gallery", but until then, good chance of getting some reviews - which is much more valuable than actually winning the weekly - but that is cool to have happen also. I have seen newbies win. Maybe as much as senior members. Senior member status comes from doing reviews - so it is a little self perpetuating that more reviews are by senior members.

Hiya Belgerath. Yes, you're right. There is a definate lack of reply on this site but it's still a great site. I think it seems to be more about the "Photo's" than the chatting. I've posted a couple of things that seem to get lots of views but very little response. BUT, I'll soon have my DSLR so am looking forward to posting some great (hopefully) shots.
Cheers.......HB
PS, welcome to the site.

Welcome to Byte,
It seems that those who are new to the site are sometimes intimidated by the critiquing process. My advice is to get involved. comment on as many photos as you feels comfortable. You don't have to be a pro to have an opinion.
The great thing about this site is we are all here to learn and hopefully hone our skills by applying the suggestions to our work. I know I have learned so much about photography from the members.
I like what I have ween for you so far and hope to see more.
Cheers,
Kevin

It's true enough as a glance of the weekly contests will show. It unfortunately seems everybody likes a winner.
Any newcomer to a forum has that unfortunate disadvantage as it takes time for others to get to know you and the "buddy" system also kicks in.
I am doing my bit to counter this by using the menu option of the contest to choose the least popular and then comment on these FWIW.
In the end, one needs to combine a self-critical stance and an open mind with a degree of confidence in one's own "personal vision" no matter what the outcome here.
Happy photographing.
