Question Choosing the right Telephoto zoom

Hy

I'm looking to buy a second lens for my new Canon XTI.
My present lens is a Canon 17-85mm. Now I want a Telephoto zoom.

I am considering 2 choice wich are not in the same category of
quality and price. 1st choice: Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG MACRO HSM and second choice Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG MACRO.

I am an amator but looking for good quality of pictures.
Will I have the same gain in quality vs gain in price?

Wich one should I choose ? Sigma looks cheaper in price
than Canon.

Thanks

Cool

I don't profess to know a thing about sigma lenses, I'd do some research on reviews. That said, I'd buy the faster glass. You can focus in lower light situations, and focus faster... for example indoor sports or....
Keep in mind at 300mm, you will be shooting at f/5.6....
Don't rule out used glass. Bought from a reputable source, you can get waaay more for your money.

I don't know these lenses either, but there is a canon compatible web site. you can get reviews and comparison photos on the forums at www.photography-on-the.net

I have a Canon 70-300 IS and have loved it. Image quality isn't that of the "L" series, but the IS has really helped in lower lighting where I have limited shutter speed. I use mine for shooting sports and wild life.
