Help Me Choose A Camera

Hi,
We started off 4 years ago with our 1st digital camera a Kodak DX3900 3.1 mp. It has been good to us but now we have children and we are beyond frustrated with the long delay in between taking shots. We have missed so many "kodak moments" because of the delay. We have decided it is time to buy a new digital camera.
We'd love the new Canon Rebel XTi but it is more than we can spend. So we must stay with a digital point & shoot.
I have spent hours reading reviews and I am beyond confused with all the technical language.
Our photos are primarily indoors of the kids, photos of items we list on ebay and we love close up shots.
What is the best camera for our purposes??
I post this on the Canon site since it appears Canon is such a leader in the digital world - but I could be wrong.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks for reading!

Capri

What is the highest price you can go?

Thing is if you are not satisfied with the point and shoot you have now because of the delay, then you wont be satisfied with any other point and shoot because they all have delays unfortunately

Some of these point and shoots are close to $500 anyway and for another $100 you can get a DSLR.
Beach Camera in NJ has the D50 for $611.
I havent bought from them but a lot of my friends have both off the net and in their store.

I am not up on all the Canon cameras but Nikon just came up with a lower priced DSLR, D40 that you could get for under $600
or the D50 for not much more than another $50

here is the side by side at dpreview that gives the specs and prices.

Nikon is a top leader as well as Canon

OK, the Fuji F31 has now grabbed my eye - but I cannot find them!! Appears that they must recently have been released outside of the USA and are not here (USA)yet???

I see the F30 for sale but not the F31. From what I am reading the only difference between the 2 is the face recognition feature on the 31 model? Perhaps not necessarily worth the extra cost or wait?

My boys are ages 4 and 15 months & they move quick!! I need a quicker camera to capture all their antics!

I guess I need to just wait for some F31's to hit the US Market and then look for sales, huh? I have always been a huge fan of fuji film - vs- kodak film...fuji film always made awesome brilliant photos (way back in the 35 mm film days!!).

I do not think I can convince the hubby to go beyond low $300's for a new camera......

Moving Quick????

One of the wishes that I had back when my kids were the age of yours was a camera that would start in an instant. P&S versions are getting much better at this but there is still that time that lens covers etc. have to extend or move. May be outta your $ range but the DSLRs mentioned above are instant.

As mentioned above DPreview is one of the best side-by-side comparison sites that I found. This side-by-side is under the "buyers guide".

An additional consideration is the external memory compatibility, ease of operation and price. Sony drives me nuts with the 'mem stick'.

Look for zoom and focus speed not just start up.

Good Luck.
