Photgraphing Flowers

This is a picture of some Asian Lillies taken early in the morning, while the dew was still on the petals. It was taken with my Coolpix 5000 on a tripod and in macro mode. I used a piece of black foam core board as a background.

Rose of Sharon

I took this picture with my Coolpix 5000 in macro mode, handheld. It is drizzling rain today, and I wanted to get the rain drops on the flower. Settings were f3.3 at 1/125 sec hand held. I hope that you enjoy.

These are very nice photos. How are you lighting these? Natural or flash?

Hi,
This is natural light on a rainy day. I find flash to harsh when shooting flowers.

Here is the same flower isolated from the background by using Photoshop. Enjoy

Ed, great flower photos....
Also perfect examples of how a black background adds another dimension to flower shots. And also how water drops adds a fresh look... Thanks for sharing.

Bringing out the beauty

Thanks for your nice comments. I think that one of the major strengths of the Coolpix 5000 is it's great macro capability. There is some real beauty in the detail of flowers that we often miss. The combination of a good macro and Photoshop lets us share that natural beauty.

Framing a Rose

I thought that I would see how the isolated flower would look with a simple frame around it. What do you think?

Thumbs up Frame

I like that one best of all. The frame really brings out the flower.

Thanks guys,
I had gotten away from using frames to try an keep file size low. This particular picture just needed something, so I added a frame. I guess that my next adventure will be to try one of Bud's new woodgrain frames. I have used Bud's actions in the past, and they are great.
