Adobe PS Seminar

I'm going to Portland, Oregon, this weekend for a PS Seminar. Going down from Seattle by train... one day the Seminar... one day back. I've never been on an American train.

I'm really looking forward to this. My purpose is to learn about the digital darkroom. Not the digital how to make a phtoograph not look like a photograph, but how to make one look like a very good one (providing of course there's something there in the first place).

I will report back.

Sheila

I think the train will be a fun ride. I rode the California Zepher when I was very young with my Grandma. I had a blast.

I look forward to hearing about all the tidbits you learned there.

Safe trip,

Kevin

I'm back! Wow, what a lot of information to absorb. Luckily, they provide an excellent workbook so that when you get home you can use it to jog your memory.

Ben Willmore taught this and there were 750 people. He's very clear and has a terrific power point presentation to illustrate everything. The first hour was about Raw and then he went on to spend two hours on Curves, which he considers the most powerful tool in PS. I started using Curves a little while ago, but I had no idea of the depth of its application.

In the afternoon there was masking, layering and a lot about color management, including b&w conversion. Restoration was alsos covered, including a tool called "patch" I hadn't had a clue about. Again, so much more to all of these things than I had ever guessed . And sprinkled throughout all kinds of tips and shortcuts. Ben didn't cover everything in the workbook, there simply wasn't time in six hours. As it was, the afternoon was so crammed I'm not sure how much of it stuck.

I ended up joining NAPP (even though I had adamantly said I couldn't afford it) and I bought a Gorilla Pod. The GP was Ruth's fault, she told me about them Only a couple of vendors, plus NAPP.

At the end, a good tip from Ben Willmore - pick five techniques then take one and keep doing it and doing it until you learn it by heart ~ then move to the next one.

I had a great time, met some nice people. An interesting mix - I sat next to a terrific young person on my right named Willow. Susan who sat behind me was very new at photography and in the midst of a life upheaval that had left her needing friends. To my left were Barbara and John, who it turned out were members of a photo club in the area Susan lives in. I made the introductions and they went off to lunch together happily chatting away.

I enjoyed the train ride and got home just in time before our big windstorms hit. We had 70 mph gusts pretty mucha all day yesterday and last night.

I wish you could all have been with me, that would be been perfect

Sheila
