I've been having problems with the Olympus Master Software (E500 camera)
1) updates have caused my computer to crash (more than once)
2) software is unable to detect when my camera is connected so have to choose storeage on the camera itself - only then will images load into the sofware.
3) Cannot find my pictures other than through master software itself. Cant seem to locate them using windows explorer.
4) When using the software I have an option to backup images to CD and yet it wont allow me to choose that option.
I can only back them up to my hard drive.
4) Do my camera batteries drain every time I download images into the software. I recall reading somewhere there is a way to save the cameral batteries.
Is there someone reading this who can help with all or at least some of these issues. Many thanks pippa

I use ACDsee to download and keep track of my images ….. and I’m very pleased with it

Hi Pippa

I'd reccomend buying a card reader. They are very cheap these days and very easy to install. Usually just plug them in and they are ready to go. I believe the E500 uses compact flash and XD cards so you'd need to get one that takes both.
The card reader just appears as some spare drives on the computer. You can then access your pictures and use what ever software you choose to process them. This will also solve your problem regarding battery drain on your camera.

The only time you would then need to plug your camera in would be to access firmware updates.

I agree the card readers are great & save battery as they extract very quickly.

thanks for the advice and am now using the card reader with the trial version of acdsee which paul (plarson) recommended and they're both bloody brilliant.
However you said: "The only time you would then need to plug your camera in would be to access firmware updates." how do i do this? do i just go to the website and plug in my camera or what? i do apologise for my ignorance in what is probably obvious - but i do get stuck with all the technology. Many thanks for any time you can spare to explain.

Hi pippa,
You're not alone.... Many others have had difficulties with the Olympus Master software.
I suggest downloading the Olympus Studio 30-day Free Trail Edition when you need to update the firmware. It worked for me and my E-300

Just tested it for connecting to the update server and it works whereas the Olympus Master 1.42 version didn't for me.

Stephen thanks for the link which has now downloaded - im trying to get to grips with it but am encountering hurdles along the way - motherboard just been replaced because old one burned out and now everything looks different from before - not so obvious which letters are assigned to which drives ie: flash card drive, also my orignal olympus master software seems to have turned up drive G instead of C as before - strange...!! computers and me are odd bedfellows and we do not automatically gell - although it takes a (long) while, i am in awe of the technology. ho hum just to say thanks and i guess it'll soon become clear - out of the fog!

I too was not enamoured with the olympus master software which i came with my camera - seems slow - hopefully i'll get along with the olympus master 2.

By the way after i downloaded the link i was asked to register and got tied up in knots when i was asked for a serial number - bypassed that, but now i guess i wont get updates..
