Play between bodies on teles?

Can anyone tell me how common it is to have some "play" (slight wiggle left and right) between an EOS body and long lens? Does anyone have any play whatsoever between any lens and body (EOS)?

I have always noticed a slight amount of play betwen my 400mm f/2.8 and IN & now with a new 5D. However, i just knocked over my 5D with 540EZ Speedlight (hot shoe broken) and 70-200 f/2.8.

Not sure if it is just me but never noticed the play before and now this lens has it (with the IN and A2, which were not involved in the accident (tipped over tripod from 2 feet up onto golf course-soft grass).

All three bodies are rock solid with my shorter glass, including the 5D which the 70-200 was on. I called Canon and am sending my Speedlight for repair. I was told not to worry about it by a Canon rep since the camera and lens seem to be working fine.

However, I called back because I forgot to ask about repairing the flash and got the same rep. I was not too comforted when he said "I thought we would hear from you again". Perhaps, it was just the major stress in my voice (that is a serious amount of money involved!).

Thanks, NN

Long Lens "Play"

I've been told by "The powers that be" that it is perfectly normal to have a "slight" amount of play between your camera body and long lens. I have the same with my 200-400mm Nikor on a Nikor body, and have had it looked at, only to be told "not to worry". The key word here is "slight".

If you have any doubts, I'd take it into your nearest dealer that sells that lens, and show them.

Carolyn
