Introduction from newbie(and some feedback)
Just want to say hi and give a short intro. My name is Fred and I am a 53 year old male residing in a smallish rural town in Holland with my wife
Jacqueline and our 3-legged cat Benjamin.
I am very new to digital photography having just aquired my first digital camera (PanasonicFX01 Point and Shoot) only 1 month ago. But the bug has really bitten me and I enjoy being able to share and interact here on this forum. I have placed a few photo's here in my gallery and also entered some in the weekly contest. Possibly their standard is not up to those of more experienced photographers and that might be the reason why they dont get any rating or many comments but I would really welcome it if more of an effort were made by all participants here to actively try and give advice, criticism (good and bad) on the all the photo's here. I dont just mean my own as I have noticed there are many entries in the weekly contest which just seem to get ignored and some that get a lot of attention. It's a bit disheartening to say the least when when gets no feedback or response to the photo's one places here. After all, that is the purpose of this forum is'nt it? I myself give comments on as many pics as I can every time I log in here.
Well I look forward to being a member on this forum and sharing with other likeminded individuals. I really like the look and layout of this forum.
With kind regards
FredS

Good to see you here instead of the other site we're both on. I'm also new to the digital photography world and appreciate constructive criticism, meaning, positive remarks in how to improve or change our image. Too many people on the "other" site rate an image based on content and not technicality. I find bytePhoto.com to be geared toward composition, clarity and DOF than content. I'm excited to see you're here; maybe we could look out for each other on both sites ;o)
Cheers!

Nice to see you here
Hi LRH,
Good to see you are here too. Yes I agree with you about the "Other"site. I am also new here and looking at the response rate to this posting of mine I can only hope that this is not an indication of things to come. Also my 2 photo's which I entered in the weekly competition have had no response except for 1 comment. I will stick around here for a week or 3 to see if it improves. In the meantime I am actively going to try other sites as well and eventually will settle for 1 or 2 of the most responsive and active ones. Will keep you informed. Likewise if you should come across a site which you can recommend let me know.
Kind regards
Fred.

Comments and Feeback
FredS,
Take heart you will receive feedback on this site, but sometimes it just takes a little bit of time. When I start commenting I usually start at the back of the pages like I did tonight and noticed that your image hadn't received any comments, so I commented on it. If you give Byte some time you will really benefit from the comments and the feedback as the photographers on this site are more than willing to help you get better and the art of digital photography.
I've made a lot of friends on this site and I've found that this site will give you the best technical information you will find. Other sites that I have browsed don't seem to know what to say about an image other than it is nice and you can't learn anything from a comment like that.
The best way to learn from this site is to just keep posting your images.
Good luck and welcome to BytePhoto.
Dave

Thanx Dave for your input. Also thanx for your constructive comments on some of my photo's. Yes, the reason I'm here is first of all to learn and improve on my photography and also very importantantly to interact and be part of this forum community.
I really look forward to enjoying myself here.
Regards
Fred.

Hi, Fred,
I agree with what Dave (ponder) said. It does take a while. There are a lot of images posted to this site and it's tough to find enough time to post to each of them in a constructive way. But like Dave, I try and on a Saturday I usually go to the back and look for people who have no comments.
If an image is outstanding it's going to get a lot of attention, that's natural. I no longer rate, because rating has no bearing on which six images are chosen for the final. I think feedback is more important than a rating.
I understand your frustration, but keep on posting, Fred.
Sheila.

HI Fred and Red Hen,
I am here also. I will be still checking out the other site, but this looks to be more what I am looking for.
I will "buddy" you both, and keep an eye out for your shots.
Best wishes to all.
Parm

Hello to both of you, Im a member of several sites (one I am a paying member of with over 500 of my photos to keep up with the comments LOL) so i dont often get time to make many comments but I do try to get in here and comment on a few each week. Stick around and see how it goes, Im sure you will start to get more scores and comments as time goes on.

Hello, FredS
I gave up a long time ago on the comments-Ponder and Northbeach are correct- it sometimes takes a loooong time-so I quit posting here, I look in ever so often, but decided it really wasn't worth it. Ponder was very nice and considerate and gave me some comments on some of my postings when I had a gallery--but after a time I just gave up on this site..don't let me get you down-just MHO,keep on posting and maybe you will get some of those helpful comments.....

Sometimes its a bit hard to find the time to comment, but like Sheila, I always try to post on a few photos that haven't had any comments during the week
Keep posting and commenting and soon you will find lots of folk will be interested.
All the best,
