How to recover files from media card

Hi, I have an Olympus camedia and I think I lost the images I took recently. I normally use the USB to transfer files into my PC, but I recently bought a laptop with multi-card reader capability, somehow I lost my files when I took out the card and inserted it into the PC and I accidentally pressed twice which ejected the card. Is there a way to recover the images from the card? When i open the camera with the card in it, it prompts you to either format it or turn off the cam. Please help me recover important images! Thanks!
