Question Sony DSC-V1 using Flash question

If I am not using Flash, I only wait 1 sec between each shot. However, if I use Flash, it takes 5-6 seconds for the flash to "charge?" in order to use flash again. Why is this taking so long? Is this normal? FYI: I am using a brand new battery too.

I would ahve to say about 3-4 second is a normal time for a flash to recharge. You have to buy very big very expensive flashes capable for 1 or 2 flashes a second.
