pencil sketch

Would you like to draw a pencil sketch? You are not good at drawing? Well, it doesnĄ¯t matter, follow me, please.

Step 1: Open your image in Photoshop, Choose Image->Adjustment->Desaturate (or Ctrl+Shift+U by default) to make the photo to black-and-white.

Step 2: Click Layer-> Duplicate Layer, duplicate the background as background copy.

Step 3: Use Image->Adjustment->Invert (or Ctrl+I by default), then the image will look like a negative.

Step 4: From the layer palette, set the blending options as Color Bodge.

Step 5: Choose Filter->Blur->Guassian Blur, set the radius 4 pixels.

Step 6: DonĄ¯t forget to merge the layer at last. So, everything is done!

Sorry, i would like to post the final work here, but I'm not allowed.

Fun! I like that you broke down the steps and showed them --- I'm such a visual learner.

I tried that too, when you first put it on the forum....it is cool, and so easy!

Re did a portrait of my 19 yr. old daughter, and she thought she looked scary! It was really cool I thought... Melodie

Cool!

Being an Elements novice I have a question though...

Couldn't you essentially do the same kind of thing by following the steps up to desaturating then choosing the Colored Pencil filter (which would essentially be in b&w now).

Example is in my Gallery... This was originally a color snapshot but I removed the color and then used the Colored Pencil filter... ???

I've tried a few software doing the jobs. Is those software like akvis using the step by step above also? There's even a web based photo to sketch conversion at www.sketchcmyphoto.com
