Dust! :(

Hi there

I'm new here... !

I've an S7000 that has 1 month left on the warranty.. it also has x2 specs of dust on the CCD which are really annoying.

I've emptied a can of air in the camera, without success. Fuji say its not a warranty issue but will charge for a service.. what should I do?

Btw, i've seen some pics from a S5100 they are really good quality.. am I right in saying that is not much difference in image quality between an S7000 & S5100?

Any helps much appreciated!!!

cheers
Mike

Dust is a given with any DSLR

Dont change lenses outside if you can help it. If you have to, bring a clear plastic bag and try to change it while its inside the bag which will help prevent some dust getting into your CCD

I was told to NEVER use air cans, that they were too forceful and can actually do damage if you arent careful.

I use a Gitzo rocket hand air pump. Forget the actual name of it at the moment.

I clean my own CCD all the time but you have to know what you are doing or again, you can damage your camera.

I know how I clean mine for the Nikon D70, but dont know what buttons are on the Fugi to help you out.
Try the Fugi forum at DPReview, bet there are some pros there that have cleaned their CCD's before could help you out

Er thanks - I do know what i'm doing, and its not a DSLR its a sealed unit.

A hand-job whotsit (!) will not cut the mustard.. in fact, i'm on my second can of canned air and the bugger is still showing.. next step is to dismantle I think.

after I sent the msg I realized the camera wasnt DSLR
Once you dismantel it, you void your warrenty completely
I would just find out the cost of repair and have Fugi fix it.
It might not be as bad as you think.

you could have possibly blown in a dust particle with the force of the air can. I've heard that happen before
Dust is everywhere whether we see it in the air or not, so its hard to avoid

We had an s5000 that had the same problem. We took it in for service because of "dead pixels".

They cleaned the camera and it fixed it. It was covered under warrantee.

Also, our new S5200 has a sealed lens, just like my 35mm's used to be. That will keep out the dust, but our S5100 still had that moving front lens.
