why are these camera kits different but about the same prices?

heres this D70 that just comes with the 18-70mm
www.bestpricecameras.com/239948-0-1.html

and here is another kit that is just a littlebit cheapera and it comes with
Nikon D70 camera body
28-70 2.84 auto focus lens
70-300 auto foucs lens
512MB memory card
case
LCD screen cover
Lense cleaning kit
Full size tripod
2 lense pouches
wrist strap
cap keeper
memory card case
www.bestpricecameras.com/229995-227265-1-D70s-KIT-#-3-(-28-200-35-56-)-PLUS-EXTRAS.html

so wouldnt the second kit be the better buy? it comes with 11 things and the first kit only comes with the lense. does anyone know why they are about the same price?

thanks

Notice that the ads don't give what brand name the lenses are. Chances are they are off-brand and not the better (and more expensive) Nikkor lenses.

so this one would probably be better www.bestpricecameras.com/239948-0-1.html even though it doesnt come with as much accessories?

edit: could someone please tell me which is the better bet, im plan on ording this tomarrow, so that i can get it on my day off from school/work. And if no one can help me pick im just going to get the one that comes with the lense and camera. not the one that comes with all the other stuff. Thank you

Take your time, you aren't ready to buy yet in my opinion.

Sounds like a good deal, but what I meant was, I dont think you are ready to decide on a make/model and brand yet. Nothing wrong with that however, just an observation. Choose wisely on your purchase.

It can be a good idea, to try and get your "local" camera shop to match the price - or try to come close. If you have problems, you can walk back into the store.

That said, BH Photo Video has great prices, and a great reputation for standing behind you in case of problems. They too can be asked to match prices.

Carolyn,

That's interesting, because I'm awfulliy close to getting a new camera and I like b&h a lot, but I can get the camera I'm leaning towards at a much better price elsewhere. I never thought of asking them to match the price.

I might have to give it a try.

Sheila.

Cheaper Cameras

I would like to suggest - any time you find cameras, lenses etc... for a much better price than B&H, or Adorama, do a google search - type in the name of the business, and add review.
Then read what others have to say about that place of business. 9 times out of 10, if the price is much lower, there's a reason... such as
They really don't have it in stock, but will tell you they do - keep your money - then ship when they get it
It's gray market
It's reconditioned etc.....
Always look a gift horse in the mouth!!
Good luck shopping - it's half the fun

Please remember "If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is". MANY of these online retailers that deal specifically in AV equipment, are selling "grey market" items. That would be items they bough wholesale from overseas that do not typically carry a US warranty. Like one of the posts mentioned above, they also sell mixed brands with their "kits". You get what you pay for, and spending a grand or so on a camera kit is not something you want to do only to find out that you've been ripped. Check out the site retailerratings.com and see how they fair.

Good luck.
