Hello,

I am interested in doing some macro photos but do not want to pay the hundreds of dollars that it will cost me to get a "real" macro lense.

Does anyone have any suggestions or alternatives?

You can get close up filters and extension tubes that will help you focus much closer. It probably won't give you a true macro shot, but it will get you closer.

you can also try inversing two lens and hold them together,its kind of hard to hold still,but it will get you extremely close.
you need 2 lenses,one attached to your camera ,something like a 50mm and the other that you hold facing your other lens,you can get adaptor rings to screw them together.you'll see a whole new world

Hi Nathalie,

Your gallery shots aren't showing EXIF so I'm not sure what camera you're using.

If your lens has standard threads, auxiliary close-up lenses work pretty well.

Hi Frank,

I am using a D70s (nikon) and as you can see I am having some issues keeping the EXIF data intact when loading my files up to the net.

You have some excellent options with the D70.

I would try an auxiliary lens. If you have a camera store near you, try one there.

You need to know the thread size of your regular lens.

About the EXIF data;

Don't save your file for the web--that eliminates the data. Resize the image and save it using Save As XXX.jpg.

Hi Frank.

I never use the Save for web option, but find that when I bring a RAW file into photoshop it does not hold the EXIF data, however if I bring a converted photo (jpg) into the software, it works. The issue with this is that I cannot adjust the whitebalance once it is converted to JPG...which means it is useless for me to shoot RAW.

I am working on a solution...slowly.

When editing your photos in photoshop, flattne the image if you have layers and use the "save as" option. that will keep the Exif data. if you use the save for web it will lose the data.

I have figured out the best way around my issue is to upgrade to CS2 which eliviates all my problems..I ran a test at work today as we have CS2 - so I will eventually get the upgrade for my home system...
