Hi
What you are referring to is called Shutter Lag. It is the delay by the camera between any 2 shots.
Your best option is a Digital SLR camera. They have almost no shutter lag. And you can keep the button pressed and the Digital Camera will keep on taking photos continously untill the buffer is full.
There are a few point and shoot cameras which have a very low shutter lag, I am not sure which latest models have a low shutter lag. Here is a page that shows shutter lag times for some cameras.

I hope this helps.
Leo.

I'm told the Sony DSC H1 has pretty fast shutter lag and it has a 10 or 12 x zoom which will allow you to be far away from your kids and catch them candidly when they don't think they're on camera.
I'd go to Steve's Digicam and check the reviews out.
Sheila.

Sony DSC-R1
We have just purchased the new Sony DSC-R1. We were not quite sure whether we were going to be happy with it or not after reading the first review. We found another review and that helped.
But then we took the camera out and started taking pictures. One of them was a pair of fast moving swans. They were starting to head under a small bridge. I was barely able to focus and was not sure if I got them. However got excellent before and again coming out from the other side. I don't know if it was a totally by chance, but was very happy with the results.
I hope you are able to find the camera you are wanting, but just had to let you know how happy we are with the new Sony
