s5000 loss of settings

Hi, I have an S5000 as well just on 2 years old and also lose date etc. when I change batteries. I assume there is an internal battery or a large value capacitor to hold the settings. there must be someone out there that can advise on how to change or reset the system.

Regards beejayau

Fufi s500

I also have an S5000 which is just over 2 years old and it losses the date when I change batteries, I also have another problem, if I put new batteries in it, even if I don't use it they only last about 36 hrs. I have tried all sorts of batteries, rechargeables, energizers etc.

hi fireblade as i said im new to this someone may come along with better advice...

are you charging the new batteries before you put them in ,as you do need to charge when you get them.
are the rechargeables your using NiMH batteries as these hold alot of charge,i get a good couple of hundred pics from these if your not using NiMH just ordinary rechargeables that could explain the lack of charge, also go for the highest power ones usualy they come in 1600-1700-etc etc i use 2600 NiMH.

as far as loosing data upon change of battery i have no idea as mine has done this since i got it new a few months ago & i only take seconds to change the battery & it ALWAYS looses the data settings,i know others with this camera have experienced the same thing...
why not join www.fuji.co.uk click on top one digital photography then go to im already a finepix owner & register they have lots of advice & tips just for fuji owners from across the world...

good luck brenda

Fuji s5000

Brenda

I have tried everything, about 8 to 10 different brand of batteries, rechargable, alkaline, nicad li ion and they all go falt virtually overnight, the worst result I have had is only 6 photos from one set of batteries, it used to be really good on batteries until about six months ago and theen it jsut turn to crap, this is about my sixth Fuji, but after this my next camera will definitely not be a Fuji.

I sent and email to Fuji asking for advice and the address of their nearest service agent and all they sent me was a pdf of part of the users manual which I already had.

S5000

Ok Fuji finally replied and heres the story.............

The S5000 has a memeory chip in it which retains the day/date/time info, after 18 months to 2 years this chip losses its capacity to hold charge therefore lossing the date/time. Ther are two options:

1. Replace the chip and/or motherboard (which in Fujis own words will be "expensive"
2. Set the date/time each time you change the battery.

They carefully avoided the issue of the batteries going flat.

So the S5000 will be binned and I will by a new camera, does anyone have any suggestions of a good replacement in a similar type/featured camera, definitely NOt a Fuji, I need a camera which will last longer than 2 years

hi
argh thats it then...as my camera does that when i change batteries doesnt matter how quick iam it looses all the data & have to reset which in most cases you just dont get chance to do...so they didnt actualy say then why its not holding battery charge ?? mine is ok with the batteries at the mo i do get a couple hundred pics from each set .

thanks for keeping us updated
dont think there is that many s5000 users here as no-one ever answers, maybe these are the reasons why then ??

good luck

S5000

Brenda, Thanks for the help along the way, I could probably have lived with the date/time issue but the battery stuff just makes it imposssible.

Probably the thing that is really annoying is that it appears the Fuji are aware of this problem and don't really care. I have only had this camera 2 or 3 years, paid nearly $1000 Aust for it and now its virtually useless and worthless.

backup battery or chip?

This is untrue about the chip being faulty. There is a backup battery as listed in the workshop repair manual. Fuji p/n FZ04704-100. This doesn't render any real results in google but you can use HB414-II06E. This battery is soldered to the motherboard CB1117-A101 DCST so it will take some skill to replace without destroying the new battery with the heat from soldering. I have spares if somebody wants theirs repaired. I'll do it for $50USD. email me: spisee at g mail . c om or post reply.

Hope this is of help to somebody who has been misguided by some misinformation. Cheers, Matt
