A Job!

Hello all...

I have been contacted by an owner of an antique store that she would like to purchase some photos I shot of the building her shop is in. I have never been so stunned in all my life! I have never sold a photo before and I am like a babe in the woods when it comes to something like this. I have printed out some of the photos on my inkjet for her, but is that enough? Should I take them to a photo shop for better developing? Should I take her the digital files to let her print them out?

See, I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to this. If you guys could give me some advice, it would be really appriciated!

Sam

Sam,
I used to shoot professionally and I would never give someone my negatives or files as now everything has gone digital. I would create a contact sheet of sorts or thumbnails of the images you shot of her store and let her tell you what she wants. This way you keep total control of your images and then you can charge her for your time and materials. If you have a decent photo printer that should be good enough, if not, then you can have them printed out at a photo lab. The problem with photo labs is that they have a tendency to gouge you and then you end up making less money than if you had printed them out yourself.

I myself use an Epson Stylus 2200 photo printer which does a beautiful job of printing out photos from 4x6 inches up to 13 x 19 inch prints.

I hope this helps you.

Dave

Thanks Dave,

What you suggested is exactly what I did. I do have a good printer that can produce exceptional photos. I sold four of them to the owner, but retained the files. She said that she might want smaller post card type versions, so now I have control over what gets printed.

Thanks for your advice

Sam
