Problems? with my brand new Olympus E-500…
I say “problems?” because I’m not sure, I’ve tried everything without success. Hope somebody can help me.
The AEL/AFL bottom doesn’t work at all:
- In playback mode it should protect a picture, but pushing it makes no effect at all…
- In photography mode, I use Simple Autofocus in mode 2. That means that pushing AEL should lock exposure, but it doesn’t. I know because the symbol AEL in the viewfinder does not lit, and besides, the camera measures exposure again…
Do I have something misconfigurated? Somebody has had the same problem?
Thanks in advance.

Re: AE Lock
I have the E-300, and this is what you have to do to lock AE.
1. Half-press the shutter button to activate the camera's exposure system.
2. Now press and HOLD the AEL button. The AEL indicator should light up in the viewfinder and the exposure values will stay locked until you release the AEL button.
As i say, mine's the E-300, but I hope this helps. On the E-500 the AEL button can alternatively be configured to lock the focus instead (AFL) I think, so check the menu system to see which option the AEL/AFL button is set up for.

Thanks, I've already solved the problem. The buttom works fine:
- In playback mode it actually protects pictures, but just in some display modes...
- In photography mode you can't actually lock exposure while in manual mode (that was my problem), because it is already locked by speed and f number...its logical.....in the rest of the modes it works fine...
Regards,
Efrén
