Question Can sun harm your lense?

well i have Sony DSC -73z

and i was wondering if its tru what my friend told me, that if you take photo and you got sun looking direcly into your lense is it tru that sun can harm your lense?

Hi,
the sun won't damage your lens but it could possibly do a number on the sensor...And if you're using a SLR camera, your eyes!

Smile Sensor.

Hi the sensor is the one capturing the image in the digital camera. currently we have the CMOS and the CCD sensor. This sensor replace your film. Sun will not destroy your lens but I'm not sure with the sensor. The producer of the image sensor should have stressed the part prior putting it in you camera. If you have a CMOS sensor I think it is ok to point it directly to the sun since you need a laser to disable 1 pixel.
