lol, mine died today too. was out for a walk, took about 200 photo's, switched it off to conserve the battery power (there were a couple of pics I really wanted to get to take).
got to the first, switched it on... flicked on, then switched off again.
got home, took out the SD card, tried charging it, wouldn't charge. tried switching it on, wouldn't work.
infact, all it'll do now is act as a webcam.
might have to take it back then :/
looks like the ds-5080 isn't a particularly good camera then

If you check in the manual, it wants a 5V adaptor. However, it doesn't give the current rating or whether +ve or -ve tip. Best bet is to get one of those universal adaptors which has a variety of connectors and lets you switch the polarity. Something like this should do...
//www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9829701.htm
//www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9820164.htm
//www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9828915.htm
You will have to cut and paste the links - I am prevented from posting clickable ones.

found win XP drivers for ds 5080 web cam here
ok i had it working under xp as a webcam using microsoft netmeeting .
but i wanted to use skype , couldnt get a driver , so the cam remained undetected .
Anyway after a little web searching i found a website that had 5080 drivers listed . it wasnt in english so i took a gamble and installed em . And ye theyy allowed xp to detect the "cam" . so i now scare my pals on skype .
drivers can be found here at
www DOT imagefamily DOT com/drivers.asp
hope this helps

The premier DS-5080 is not a webcam, it is a digital camera. One of the features of the camera is that it can perform as a PC-cam. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work on Windows XP although some people have had success. The other problem with this camera is reliability. Tesco have had rather a lot taken back. If you want a webcam, why not get a webcam instead of a digital camera with PCcam feature?

as joha says this is really just a digital camera .its very good for the price.£50.The qualtiy of the pictures is pretty good .I bought a 512 mb sd card for extra storage fo £12 and now it stores 689 pictures in 5 megapixel mode. At the lowest qualtiy setting , small file size pics for putting on a website , it stores 4000 snaps with a 512 mb card.
its a good starter cam , the quality is reasonable for the price . if you are into serious photography you will soon be upgrading to one with more options. but i have no need to do this.Its great for taking snaps and with a decent memory card has huge storage potential.
It can be used as a we cam also. but the quality isnt fantastic.
Also a lot of people with windows xp have been having difficulty setting it up as there are no xp drivers on the makers cd or their website . however my post above takes you to a site where you can get em.
however it functios as a camera only . i havent been able to get the inbuilt mic to pick up my voice in cam mode.A mid range web cam costs about £25 minimium.

Grrrrrrr I was hoping there was a solution to this problem. I bought this camera for my girfriend for christmas and the above has happened to me exactly as stated. What makes it worse is that I had it at the time so it is up to me to sort out and I have also thrown away the receipt. She doesnt know its broken yet lol. Thought it was too good to be true.

This Is Driving Me Nuts!!!
I installed the driver off the disk first, it said restart so i did, and when i attach camera and select pc cam is opens new hardware wizard saying looking for driver.
So i found another copy of the driver on the link above and it says the same thing, does anyone know how i can get it to become a webcam?!
Any Help would be greatly appreciated

Hi everyone
i am looking to get one of these bad boys to work as a digital camera i can take on nights out (ie its not the end of the world if it gets dropped in a pint !)
but i also want it as a webcam - is there anyone who has tried all the advice on here and still not had any luck as a webcam?
by the way they still have some in my local Tesco and they are £29.99!!!
they also had an 8 mpix camera in there for £80!!
cant remeber what it was tho and its not on the website!
Does anyone know of any other cheap digi cameras which will defonitely function as a webcam??

problematic
hmm.
Maybe its me, but the pictures on this camera often tend to turn out chronically too dark - even though in relatively 'okay' daylight.
For the price though, at 30 pounds, I can't really complain.
It does sound though like there is a serious problem with the camera though, and I've had weird moments with the camera when it seems to have either lost pictures, or where it won't power up.

There seems to be a large number of Premier 5080's on eBay now.
The power up failure seems to be a major problem but also seems to be caused when transferring data to the computer via the disc drive option.
I have purchased another from eBay for £42 including delivery and from now on will transfer the photos by first taking out the SD Card to use a separate card reader,
One bonus though, I have seen two separate faulty cameras go on eBay for around £15 as spares and repairs.
(h.t.t.p://)cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7607959375&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
Think once the new one arrives I will list mine and see how much it goes for.

Camera won't power
I just got the Ds-5080, I noticed a day ago that it wouldn't come on. I removed the battery and put it back and it powered. It has refused to come on again and i have repeated the process but this time it still would't power on.
Where can i get memory at a good price.
Pls help!
Cheers!
