 S3000 Mode Switch

In my 1 year old s3000, suddenly, when I move the Mode switch to manual or video, the camera stays in the prior mode. Auto and Scene Position works well, except continuos shooting which have a rather random performance.
Anyone have or had had same problem? Is there a software solution for this ?
I appreciate help.
