Red-Eye Removal for Digital Cameras

ArcSoft Releases the Latest Version of Its Embedded Automatic Red-Eye Removal for Digital Cameras and Printers; Now with Improved Accuracy and Detection Rate for a Better Consumer Experience

Jan. 5, 2006 ArcSoft, a leader in multimedia technologies and software solutions, today announces Version 1.6 of the red-eye removal solution SDK, an improvement over its previous solution to the age-old problem of red-eye created by digital cameras using a flash.

The ArcSoft red-eye solution embedded into the firmware of a digital camera enables users to automatically remove this common problem in their photos without the need for a computer. The feature will empower consumers to work directly on their cameras; photos can be enhanced instantly, and then sent directly to a photo-finishing printer. This flexibility and time-saving capability is a huge step toward creating a better experience for any digital camera user.

"This is a real technology breakthrough. The biggest challenge for auto red-eye removal solution is in detecting as many red-eye problems as possible while limiting the number of false detections of things like red lips or dots on a tie. This new and improved SDK does it better than any other automatic solution we've come across," said Stephan Cote, ArcSoft Vice President, Imaging Group. "Thanks to ArcSoft's newest solution, you no longer have to sacrifice accuracy for a higher rate of detection."

Key Benefits:

-- Fast and easy integration into almost all OEM imaging capture and output devices

-- Low memory requirement -- less than 1 MB -- makes the solution compatible with most devices

-- Low processing power requires as little as 50 MHz

-- Error and detection ratio balanced for better quality image

-- Advanced color and value blending technologies ensure natural-looking correction results

-- Fast processing performance allows the integration for either post-processing or pre-processing, providing users more control on detection and correction

Benchmark:

-- Detection Rate: 80%

-- Error Rate: 1%

-- Good Fix Rate: 97%

-- Average Time *: 2.6 Seconds

* Benchmark CPU: 108M MIPS32
