Steps to take are (for Windows XP)
1) Install the USB driver from the CD
2) Switch on the camera
3) Plug in the USB lead
4) Choose PC CAM on the camera
5) Your PC will now detect the device
6) Drivers will be loaded
7) Camera Device will show up
However, even though the camera shows as a device in device manager, it doesn't show under scanners and cameras in control panel, and it can't be found by software that goes looking for webcams on your PC. So draw a blank for me too. Will have another go tonight.

Thanks for the link. That is for setting up the DS-5080 to get pictures off (and on) the camera. This works no problem as you say, you just plug the camera in and Windows XP sorts it all out. Driver CD not needed.
However, my problem (and the OPs) is using the DS-5080 as a webcam. If you just plug the camera into Windows XP and select PC CAM from the DS-5080 menu, Windows XP can't sort out the drivers itself. The manual says to instal the USB drivers from the CD (pages 56 & 57). If you do this, XP is a bit happier and will stop asking for the drivers, and will say the webcam is working OK (in device manager). But, it doesn't work. The camera cannot be found by any software I have got and it doesn't show up in Scanners and Cameras (control panel) and it doesn't show up as a TWAIN device either. Have tried lots of possible alternative drivers from the website but none of them work.
Has anybody actually got a DS-5080 to work as a webcam on Windows XP SP2?

DS-5080 as a webcam on xpsp2
I tried to install it as a webcam it by the book with my first DS-5080 and got blue screened, so had to perform a system restore, i made a system restore point before installing the webcam drivers as i got an incompatiblity message. i never tried it again after getting blue screened XPSP2 obviously does not like it lol.
Instead i went out and bought a labtec for webcam applications and works great
thanks for your reply and why not check out my gallery.........
