so far, my only "Perfect Picture"
This was taken just a few months ago, at Sebring International Raceway, in Sebring, FL. It was at a Porsche BMW Owners Club Club Race.

panning was one of the most difficult things for me to learn as a photographer in the Air Force. My boss used to send me down to practice with the planes taking off and landing. You did a nice job here.

thanks everybody - I really do appreciate it.
I try to stay humble...I have over 1600 pictures I've taken, and this one really stays at the top of my own chart.
I'll throw a few more up here in my personal gallery in the next few days.

thanks
I followed the car with my camera as it came around the turn, then focused on the car where it would be going in a straight horizontal line in front of me, and at the precise time it was exactly in front of me, I shot it - they really are the hardest pictures to take, the motion shots, with the subject in pure focus without losing focus on the subject, or, even worse, blurring the whole picture with no focus.

can somebody tell me what "filtering" or using "filters" in a shot means?

Nice shot Jeff. Panning it really shows the essence of speed here.

Filters are glass elements which usually screw onto the front of the lens, however some digital cameras have them 'built in'.
Don't know too much about these 'built in' ones, though.
The filters which screw on to the lens come in many variations, such as UV, Polarizer, Neutral Density, red, orange, etc etc
I personnally use a polarizer which helps increase color saturation. For example the blue of a sky in a landscape. I think in your case this filter would be very usefull as it also reduces reflections on windows and metallic surfaces, but only if the shot is taken at the correct angle with the light source.
Hopefully this answers your question.
