I have recently taken an interest in photography, and have been comparing digital SLRs, trying to understand all of the features, and have come across something that I would like to ask.

It seems some more expencive cameras offer more detailed white balance control than others, but would having better white balance control do anything that some color tweaking in photoshop couldn't?

If the answer is no, than what other features act in a simmelar way, as in doing things to the image that if I really needed them done could be done in Photoshop? Since I already have photoshop, and I don't want to pay for features in my camera that I don't have to.

Very good question, and the answer is very simple, the white balance features in expensive cameras does come in handy, and if you are a professional you would know who to utilize those features, but seeing that you are just starting out, I really wouldn’t worry about that for right now, mainly because you have one of the best editing programs out on the market which can adjust all of those elements, you are on the right track, use your software, and maybe someday you will be giving me advice.
Think of it this way, when someone comes in here and reads your thread they are going to go into detail in technical terms that you might not understand, and they will tell you things that will make you scratch your head saying “What”? And ever will really answer your question, and also think of it this way, if the camera is that important we really wouldn’t have no need for a program such as Photoshop, would we?

If the camera can shoot and create RAW files, with Photoshop you can adjust the white balance using the Camera Raw plug-in.

White balance in Camera is great. Her is the answer to your own question. If you go out one day and shoot 250 shots, would you have time to sit in front of your computer and edit all 250 shots or would you rather have the shot taken correctly in the first place?
