Dazed and Confused
I'm having a hard time finding the right camera for my needs. I love to take surfing shots. I started out with a Sony MVC FD75 which suited me pretty well with the 10X zoom. I had a chance to trade it in on a Sony DSC S85 which takes killer pictures over the old MVC, but I cant get a close enough shot unless I shot from a pier. Beach shots are out of the question, unless its a beach break. I'm wanting a descent digital that has more reach. I guess I'm going to have to go with an SLR? camera with interchangeable lens, but I'm really a point and shoot kinda person. Is there a foolproof digital out there that meets my needs, that I wont have to read a 1000 page manual to figure out?
I guess I should have mentioned that I just post the surfing shots on the internet. I never print them out. Thats one reason the old Sony FD worked well for me. Didn't they make a similar camera in a 20X version?
Thanks,
Kevin

Camera for Surf Photography....
Check out the Canon G6 - you can even get a lens accesorie to give you more zoom.
Better yet, Nikon D70 - don't buy the kit lens. Actually I should say - don't buy the kit lens for surf photography... but as a prosumer type lens it is quite good. Set this camaera on automatic, point and shoot. Or better yet, for surf photos, set it on shutter priority at 500 - and you are still basically pointing and shooting~~
I do a lot of surf photography and can recommend consumer, prosumer or pro lenses to you if you are interested.
Cheers,
Carolyn

Kevin,
The telephoto lens for the Canon G series cameras is just not that good. I have the Canon Powershot G3 and while I love the camera, and purchased the telephoto lens and find that it's just not good. The wide angle lens is really nice as is the close-up lens, but for someone like you who wants to shoot telephoto shots, I would try something else as Shootem says in her post.

The Canon G6 seems a lot like my Sony DSC-S85, it doesn't have an interchangeable lens option.
Is there any accessories for my Sony that will "get" me out there better?
I'm having a really hard time convincing my wife I actually need to drop a grand on a camera outfit, and I'm not wanting to have to sell one of my boards.
I really like the Nikon D70, how does that rate to the Canon Rebels?
Thanks,
Kevin

Fujifilm S5200
I don't know what your budget is but on the lower end of things, I'm loving my new Fujifilm S5200. 12x Zoom and 5.1 Megapixils.

I think I decided to go with the Canon S2 IS. It has a 12X optical lens that should get me out to the line up pretty good.
