Don't send your camera to Mack Camera service unless you're willing to lose it
I am posting this as a warning...
I sent in my laptop for a minor repair, and after sitting in their shop for 2 months they sent me a huge repair bill
From the get go, their customer service representatives were rude and seemed annoyed that I would even be calling them, before even describing my situation.
Finally, I learned that they had completely destroyed it, and refused to take responsibility...and even had the audacity to say that I was lying and had done the damage. As I am not the only one this has happened to, this may be company policy
Their customer service representatives are difficult to get ahold of, and are rude and insulting, and as soon as you hang up the phone they seem to forget about everything they promised to do

Mack Camera
Mack Camera does laptop repairs?
I thought they were just cameras?
I bought an extended service policy from the for my D70, but havent had to use it yet. Now I'm not so sure I want to.

Yes, Mack Camera & Video Service (mackcam(dot)com)
they do warranty's on camera, tv's laptops, video equipment...etc
As an aside, even if they do not cause you personally trouble, you can be gauranteed that what you sent in will be sitting on a shelf unprotected for several months in line before it gets to their **1** technician

Re: Don't send your camera to Mack Camera service unless you're willing to lose it
I am having the exact same experience. They lied about sending my thinkpad to IBM or an IBM authorized service center (I checked with IBM). Then they said they sent it to 2 different "guys", each of whom took 3 weeks to do nothing. now they say they have sent it to a third place.
they will hold it hostage until it I give up or it fixes itself. they are lying scumbags selling worthless pieces of paper and punishing people for trying to use them. maybe they do actually have a camera repair shop (they certainly don't have one for computers)--but I wouldn't think that such people could be trusted under any circumstances.
I'm contacting their local district attorney. I'll update you if you want to be included.

Thats why I only send my gear to the company that built it..
NIKON to NIKON
KODAK to KODAK
HP to HP..........................
I'm sorry but none of these " I can fix it outfits" ever get anything that belongs to me.

I purchased a Mack Warranty on a roughly $1000 lens several years ago. I have had to send it in twice now for two seperate issues.
The first time, I mailed it in and it took roughly three months for the equipment to be repaired and returned to me. When I received it, the equipment had been reassembled incorrectly and had to be mailed back to them so they could assemble it right. That took another few weeks. To their credit, it was properly repaired when they sent it back to me again. Altogether, this took nearly four months.
The second time, I mailed it in and it took roughly five months for the equipment to be "repaired" and returned to me. The equipment had several issues and only one was checked and repaired; the other defects had not been repaired or even looked at according to the receipt. Aditionally, the item was again reassembled improperly (they left crap floating around inside the inner elements) and they managed to scratch the hell out of the multicoated front element, to boot. It's being sent back now, and whether or not I get it back replaced or repaired in a reasonable time will dictate whether I take this to the BBB or my state AG. Getting a hold of their customer service is very difficult. You have to trick their phone system by calling their warranty sales department, then complaining. If you call their warranty repair department, you almost always get a voicemail. They return their messages, in my experience, 24+ hours later. Their reps are very friendly, but pass the buck a great deal and seem powerless to expedite any warranty repair process.
I really wish I could reccomend Mack Camera because I do like the idea of an extended mail-away warranty service for high-end camera equipment. But, in practice, you could achieve the same level of service by drop-kicking your equipment into your back yard at the beginning of Spring, retrieving it at the end of Fall, then taking $50 out of your wallet and setting it on fire.

I have a Mack Camera warranty for my laptop and totally agree with the previous poster about drop-kicking my laptop into the backyard and waiting until next spring.
They've had my service request since mid November 2005 - today is January 31, 2006. I've emailed a gazillion times, called several times and today finally got someone to answer the phone who found my file and said, "Oh gosh, we have everything we need right here to authorize repair. I'll call the repair center today."
Now we'll see if that even happens. I've even been yelled at by the owner of the company when calling to inquire about lack of service in the past.
Do NOT buy their warranty. Go with a manufacturer's warranty instead. You'll actually get service.
