the 7D IS NOT a 'point and shoot'

it is a single lens reflex which has a moveable mirror which presents a view through the VIEWFINDER only

by default the camera will not 'fire' until focus lock has occurred

if you have never used a SLR this is NOT a good beginner's model unless you are willing to REALLY STUDY the manual

THERE IS NO WAY TO USE THE LCD FOR COMPOSITION
THIS IS THE NATURE OF A DIGITAL SLR

Just a ponder and please excuse if this seems a little basic but worth checking me thinks, i am assuming it is the same for the 7d as for my 5d, do you have a memory card instaled because without one fitted it will not function as the shutter lock is engaged, ta shagmeister
