DSC-P92 Action shots

Hi,

I have a DSC-P92. I belong to a working dog club and take photographs of the other club member's dogs. I'd like to be able to take the best quality action shots as possible. Is it possible to adjust shutter speed on a P92? If so, how is this done?

Anyone??? I'd appreciate any help! Apparently the camera does not have adjustable shutter speed. But, are there other settings I can change to improve action photo quality? Thanks again.

I did not view your photo; I just don't download any attachments from folks I don't know, no offense. If you post in a gallery here you'd have more success with views, IMHO.

I am not one of the best photographers on the site, but I do have a SONY so hopefully I can get you somewhere. First off, did you use "Auto" to take your action shot? I would not recommend this. I have a 19 mo. old, and I almost always up the shutter speed to take pics of him, since he won't stay still!

The best info on how to change shutter speed on your camera will be in your manual, but basically you'll flip your camera from Auto (camera icon) to Manual (M). From there, after reading your manual (and if you've misplaced yours I am sure SONY has one online), you should have a good idea how to up the shutter speed - 1000 will be as high as that will go. Remember, when the shutter speed goes up, less light will be allowed into the camera, so you will have to compensate somewhere, either by adding some lighting or using your flash (I'd recommend trying to get some good lighting going on, if at all possible).

Yes, I do have it set on Auto. And yes, I've misplaced my manual, I've had the camera for awhile but just recently started taking an interest in capturing better quality photos. I didn't find the online version particularly helpful regarding action shots. However, thank you, I'll try switching it to manual and see if I get better results.

I had a look at the photo, and three things stick out to me.

Firstly its in landscape, (ie: your holding the camera normally)
Particularly with action shots of people in landscape you have to be further away and get to much nothingness either side.

Twist the camera and take the shot in portrait mode, you will be able to get a closer, better detailed shot.

Secondly, the composition of the shot. The dogs leg has been cut off, and it distracts the shot makjing it feel incomplete. Try with the new portrait style to get the dog in the bottom right half of the shot and the man in the top left half. This can be achieve by finding the angle, or careful preparation or timing. Perfect pictures take these, unless your very lucky.

Last but not least the blur on the photo. Your camera is not capable of manual settings, so sometimes this may not be easily avoided. Your camera has 5 modes: Twilight /
Twilight Portrait / Landscape / Snow / Beach. If its sunny outside i suggest you use landscape or beach, these will set the highest shutter speed. Otherwise auto.

I hope you dont think ive said your picture is bad, i just think these suggestions will help. Searching the internet for photography subjects, such as Rules of Third. This will help you take better shots.
