New A510 buyer
Hello ... I'm new to digital photograpy (and to this forum) and I wold like some pointers. I am prepairing to buy mi first digital camera. I had a bit of experience with photography but nothing profesional so please excuse my ignorance
The camera I have my mind set on is Canon A510 as I have a low budget and I don't need anything fancy. I thought to go with this one and buy some aditional filters and maybe some lenses that wold come in handy with any camera.. like wide angles and macro...
I have searched quite a bit for this kind of accesories and i got two names that i heard where reasonable quality for theyr price: Tiffen and Raynox. Th problem i am faicing is the great range of diferent diameter sizes these accesories come in and I have a hard time deciding.
So what I need is some advice on the quality of these two brands, and maybe if someone has this camera, a set of filters and lenses that work toghether. For example.. can I put a filter on and then a wide angle lens ??? Because I might have filters for the standard 52mm converter.. but if I want to use wide angle, those lens bring me to 62 mm. So can I still use my 52 filters or do I need to buy a 62 mm set(or maybe a step up ring) ?
I don't know if you can make any sense of what I am saying but please give me some advice on what to do.
Thank You.
ps: if you have some online stores to recomend that woulld be great

sorin7486,
I don't have any experience with the Canon A510 as I have the Canon Powershot G3 and Canon 20D, but I can tell you that the only lenses you can purchase for the A510 are the same lenses I have for my G3. Your camera doesn't allow you to change the lenses, but merely add these add-on lenses to the existing lens.
The macro add-on lens is very good as is the 250D macro lens, but the telephoto is not that great by any measure.
DPReview is one of the best sites on the internet for camera reviews, since it gives you a lot of information about cameras. Here is the link:

According to DPReview you can purchase a 52mm filter hold for this camera, so that should help you in your quest to find the proper sized filters.
Good luck!

Hello..
Thank you for the reply ... but my question is more of practical nature. I already know a litle bit about filters and lenses(adapters) but only theory. What I want to know is how do i best combine them all so that i can use both the filters and the lenses at the same time? Can I put a filter between the screwon lens and the camera ??? so that i can the 52 mm filter in every situation. ( as I am writing this i figured out that doing this might afect the focal distance and the camera might not be able to focus). I could just buy the canon lens that are 52mm at both ends,.. but i wold like to have something around 0.5x as wide angle lens. I can alwais zoom in a bit from there..(don't know if that sounds good for you guys)
So if anyone has any other advice plase post it... this is not necesarly a mather of a510.. I presume that this problem arises with all screw on lenses...
thank you..
