Need help...about the technicals of photography

Hi,

I've been taking photos for a while and have been told that they are pretty good, but I still consider myself a beginner. Mainly because I don't know all of the technicalities of the photographs that I take. I have heard of some mail/online courses for digital photography since I am at home with my children and unable to go to an actual class, can anyone recommend any programs? What does anyone think of The New York Institute of Photography courses?

Would love to hear your suggestions!
