Olympus Takes Center Court with Sponsorship Of US Open Tennis Tournament
MELVILLE, N.Y Aug. 11, 2003
Olympus will be the "Official Camera" and "Official Binocular" of the nation's most exciting two-week sporting event
Olympus America, Inc., a market leader in the areas of film and digital photography, announced today that it will be a sponsor as well as the "Official Camera" and "Official Binocular" of the prestigious US Open Tennis Tournament, held at the United States Tennis Association's National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. Olympus will join the US Open beginning with this month's tournament, which starts on August 25, and is committed to sponsoring the event through 2006. The US Open attracts the world's elite tennis players, a live audience of 630-thousand spectators and 100-million television viewers from across the globe. It is widely considered the sport's most exciting and competitive professional tournament.
"At Olympus we take pride in designing camera products that connect performance, excitement and style," said Martin Lee, senior vice president, marketing, Olympus America. "Not only is photography central to the US Open, but the event has exactly the same qualities -- with the worlds' best tennis performers playing in an enormously exciting environment with a sense of style and flare that the audience loves. What a great place to showcase our brand and our products."
As a sponsor and the "Official Camera" of the US Open, Olympus will have a high-degree of tournament visibility, including center court signage in Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium, venues where key matches are played. The brand will staff a professional photographer's service center to provide technical support to the approximately 300 professional photographers that are registered to cover the tournament. Olympus will have a hospitality suite in Arthur Ashe Stadium that will be used to entertain key business partners and provide them with opportunities to use Olympus camera products in an action-packed environment. The company will support Arthur Ashe Kids Day - a pre-tournament festival aimed at younger tennis fans - hosting its own activities on a satellite court during the event. Russ Adams, official photographer of the USTA, will be using Olympus' E-1 camera to capture official US Open images that he will then display in the Olympus booth. Olympus will also have brand exposure in various USTA media properties, including the tournament's official program.
"It's a pleasure to welcome the Olympus brand into the US Open community," said Arlen Kantarian, Chief Executive, Professional Tennis, USTA. "Olympus is a brand that understands the power of images to capture the tremendous excitement, style and exceptional competitive energy of tennis played at this level. The lasting images of the most dramatic moments from the US Open will be Olympus images and we're excited to have them as a partner in this great event."
