I would like transfer edited images back to the memory card for a slide show from my d70. Can this be done?

Just try it - I don't see any reason it wouldn't work, they are just files.

Either use a CF card with nothing else on it, or, if you're wanting to add images to a card with images already on it, make sure they're backed up first. Also, I would let the camera handle any needed CF card formatting.
